The first step towards a global ecology is an ecology of the mind.  Kenneth Mills opens the vista of a radically transformed perspective: A new land “beyond the gravitational fields of suggestion.” The first four chapters of The New Land!, “Preface,” “Focus,” Structure,” and “Combustion,” unfolded one summer in a little cottage on the banks of the St. Croix River in New Brunswick.  During the following autumn, in the midst of packing to move to a new house, among the boxes and the buzz of activity, he paused and offered the final chapter in the form of a poem: “A Song of Invention.”
