"The key to mentoring is identity. . . . A teacher is one who has the knowledge of how to do something and cqrries his books under his arm; a mentor is one who carries his head! If the head permeates the situation with another, the heart never has the chance to flourish."

These words were spoken by Kenneth George Mills, the 1997 Honorary PRIME Mentor of
Canada, during his acceptance speech which drew frequent applause from the packed PRIME Mentors of Canada's Tenth Anniversary Gala
Fundraising Dinner at the Royal York Hotel on Saturday, April 5. The importance of mentoring
was highlighted also by the world premiere preview presentation of his film portrait entitled The Rapture of Being: Three Days with Kenneth George Mills (directed by multiple Gemini Award winner Barbara Willis Sweete of Rhombus Media), in which the audience was dazzled by his creativity and his ability to draw out the creative potential in his proteges.

The extraordinary evening began with an art and fashion show of Kenneth Mills' original acrylics and his creatively magnificent haute couture designs at Toronto's prestigious Design Exchange.

St. Stephen "Renaissance"
Man Named Honorary PRIME
Mentor of Canada

New Brunswick Saint John Telegraph Journal
Saturday, May 3,1997 by Jan-Christian Sorensen, Telegraph Journal.

St. Stephen native Kenneth George Mills recently received the title of Honorary PRIME
Mentor of Canada for 1997 by a Toronto-based education group that fosters the development of
young, at-risk, inner-city children.

Webster's New Dictionary and Thesaurus defines "renaissance man" as "a person who has wide
interests and is expert in several areas."

St. Stephen native Kenneth George Mills not only
exemplifies this description; he redefines it.

Dr. Mills was recently awarded the title of Honorary Prime Mentor of Canada for 1997 by a
Toronto-based education group that fosters the development of at-risk, creative inner-city
children from grades four to eight who tend to be neglected or underachieving.

The group, PRIME Mentors of Canada, was founded in 1987 by University of Toronto professor Conchita Tan-Willman, as a means of curbing the high dropout rate that she said exists
in that age group.
